Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 24, 2026
CalSwipes is developed by Ashkon Chaghajerdi and Dylan Brown. This policy describes how the current version of CalSwipes handles your information.
Information stored on your iPhone
The following information is stored locally on your iPhone and is never sent to CalSwipes servers:
- Optional first name or nickname
- Height and starting weight
- Fitness goal (lose, maintain, or gain weight), activity level, and weekly rate
- Optional target weight
- Dietary restrictions, including allergens and preferences such as vegan, vegetarian, halal, and kosher
- Logged meals, including food names, calories, protein, carbs, fat, dining hall, date, and time
- Weight log entries
- Recurring foods
- Meal plans
Menu requests
CalSwipes fetches Berkeley Dining menu data from a backend server. The only information sent in these requests is the dining hall, date, and meal period. No personal information is included in these requests.
Location
CalSwipes requests Apple's “When In Use” location permission. Your location is used only on-device to determine which Berkeley dining hall you are nearest to.
Your location is not stored, sent to a server, or shared with third parties.
Camera and nutrition-label scanning
CalSwipes requests camera access so you can scan packaged-food nutrition labels. Photos are processed entirely on-device using Apple's Vision framework.
Photos are not uploaded, stored, or shared.
What CalSwipes does not do
The current version of CalSwipes:
- Does not require user accounts or sign-in
- Does not collect email addresses
- Does not use analytics or crash-reporting SDKs
- Does not contain advertising or use advertising tracking
- Does not use HealthKit
- Does not contain payments or subscriptions
- Does not share user data with third parties
- Does not sell user data
Deleting your data
Because CalSwipes does not create user accounts and user information is stored locally on the device, users can delete their locally stored CalSwipes data by deleting the CalSwipes app from their iPhone.
Children's privacy
CalSwipes is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. The “Last updated” date will be changed when material updates are made.
